Juvenalia ... (previously known as "Jingles")

On December 5, 2009, as the waning of the year comes, the first signs of rebirth begins and this revival of the old made new again is what the Province of Southern Shores (San Jose, CA: www.southern-shores.net) commemorates with the Feast of Juvenalia. In this Romano-Celtic festival, we celebrate the youth in all of us, so, instead of formal classes, we will have period games, music, song, and informal dancing to entertain the adults and children in us all.

Festivities commence at 1 p.m. and continue until 8 p.m. We have few limitations -- there is, alas, no room for games involving armor and big sticks and, as is appropriate with celebrating the child within all of us, "small sticks" that are smoked are disallowed. While we anticipate the spirits will run high, they, alas, cannot be the imbibable kind.

This year our feast is a hosted potluck. Southern Shores will provide the main course(s) – a turkey (or two, depending upon pre-event ticket sales), a large period pork dish, and a vegetarian quiche. Attendees are asked to bring potluck side/dessert dishes (please see the Feast section below on this page for specifics), enough to share with at least 6-8 people.

As in previous years, favorite returning activities include: the Silent Auction (donations to the auction will be greatly appreciated); and the Southern Shores' Silver-Tongued Devil contest.

NEWS FLASH: "Greetings! His Highness and I had the pleasure of visiting Golden Rivers last weekend for their Anniversary Banquet. At that event We were impressed by the generosity of their populace, as a large number of toys were brought fot Toys for Tots. Since the theme for Juvenalia is youth, We thought it might be a good place to take such donations. We apologize for the short notice. If you would bring a new unwrapped toy when you come to Juvenalia tomorrow, we can help make the holiday season better for those less fortunate. We thank you for your consideration in this." — Leohtulf, Prince & Gillian, Princess
