An Anglo Saxon Riddle

from Wulfric of Creigull

A moth ate words. A marvel to me
when I found out their strange fate,
that the worm swallowed some man’s song,
a thief in the night filched his fine speech
and its stout structure. The stealing guest
was not a whit the wiser for the words he guzzled.

What am I?
