There is an Islamic tradition that Adam was the first baker. The Tree of Knowledge was a stalk of wheat. Part of the ease in the Garden of Eden was the fact that flour for a batch of bread could be made out of a single kernel of wheat. When Adam and Eve were sent forth out of Eden and had to work by the sweat of their brows, part of the punishment was shrinking wheat down to its current small size.
