Health Notes

Wulfric of Creigull

More from the book "Regimen Saniatis Salerni" a poem from the 1200s (or so) containing practical medical advice.  This translation dates to 1604.

Sit brevis, aut nullus tibi somnus merdianus.
Febris, pigrities, capitis dolor, atque catarrhus,
Haec tibi proveniunt ex somno meridiano.

If R. be in the month, their iudgements erre,
That thinke that sleepe in after-noone is good:
If R. be not therin, some men there are
That thinke a little nap breeds no ill bloud:
But if you shall herein exceed too farre,
It hurts you health, it cannot be with stood:
Loog sleepe at anter-noones by stirring fumes,
Breeds Slouth, and Agues, Aking heads and Rheumes:
The moysture bred in Brest, in Iawes and Nose,
Are cal'd Catars, or Tysique, or the Pose.
