Recommending for an Award in the SCA

What awards are available?

For service specifically to the Principality of the Mists. the Corollae Nebularum; Aulica (service), Vitea (arts), and Muralis (war).

For service to the realm deserving reward. Awards of Arms.

For outstanding service to the realm. Leaves of Actlievement: Order of the Leaf of Merit (service) and Order of the Rose Leaf (arts and sciences).

For exemplary demeanor and courtesy. the Princess' Order of Grace.

For notable contributions by a young person. the Order of the Pegasus.

How do you recommend for an award?

  1. Date your letter.
  2. Put the names of the Prince and Princess, or King and Queen you are writing to on the letter.
  3. Include the full name of the person you are recommending and be careful about the spelling!
  4. Be as specific as you can about what the person has done. Instead of saying “He has autocrated local events”, say “He has autocrated three local events in the past year including a two-day prize tourney which was attended. by at least 200 people. "
  5. If you know, include mention of any awards that the person already has, especially Principality awards which do not appear on the Kingdom Order of Precedence. Conversely. if you are sure that the person has no awards, mentioning it is a good idea.
  6. When signing your letter, include your own office, titles and awards.

Who can recommend for an award?

Anyone who is a member of the SCA, regardless of rank or whether they hold awards themselves, may recommend for an award.

If, when you recommend for an award, that recommendation is not acted upon during one reign, be sure to write a recommendation to the successors to the thrones.
