Talitha’s Corner
Supporting your officers:
Minister of Arts and Sciences
by Vicountess Talitha von Kopke
(being now Duchess Emma Fitzwilliam, OP)
So how many people think that to aid an A&S officer you need skill
or talent? Reconsider, please. Your A&S officer needs
ideas for projects, places to carry them out, funds for materials and
students. Some projects you may wish to consider
undertaking: SCA signs, Garb, Banners, Painted Sheets (in the
likeness of period tapestries or paintings), Painting (or etching) the
branch arms on branch feastware, or doing an A&S night to etch
names on individual feast gear. Anyone can do at least a part of
any of the above tasks with a minimum of direction. Can't
sew? Let someone cut out the fabric and lay out straight seams
for you then push on the sewing machine pedal as if you were
driving. (It really has been done.) Besides, I'll bet that
if you're determined enough to learn something you will find at least a
bit of ability. Not in the field you expect, perhaps, but what
harm is there in learning from an unexpected direction?
