More from Lord ThomasMay A.S. 20The real fun and challenge of Art lies not merely using it to win contests, glory and renown, it lies in the doing. Just as you might try yourself climbing a mountain, swimming across a lake, or taking on that Duke over there, no different is taking on that creative mountain. In fact, it can be far more difficult and rewarding to reach into yourself and find the resources to create a unique work that is yours in the fullest sense of the word. As the introduction to well known non period television series said: "To boldly go where no man has gone before." By making this journey from the known into the not yet known, we increase our knowledge and broaden the scope of what we are. But Art is not only a challenge, it can and should be fun. It should be something you do because you like to do it. Once you explore it, you will discover that it really covers a wide variety of possibilities. These include not only the Fine Arts such as painting but a variety of other activities. You can dance, sing, play music, act in a play to name a few. And once you try it, who knows? You might discover that it’s not so bad, in fact, its fun. But, at least for me, the real fun is in doing not watching, trying my hand at it. There is no reason that the arts need be dull, somber, and serious. Any aspect of the arts can be play if approached in the proper spirit. And that is the really wonderful thing about them, the two fold benefit of providing leisure and pleasure, while also providing the opportunity to stretch out from what you are, toward what you are able to become. Are you game? Will you accept the risk? It’s your move. In service to the dream
