The True History of the True Brick

The origins of Southern Shores' involvement with bricks began around A.S. XIV or XV.  A bunch of us were camped together at a Mists-Cynagua War at Lake Berryessa, and as I recall, it had been raining, but we had gotten there early and grabbed on of the areas with a covered table area.  We were handing out and Eric Foxworthy was stilting at the table sort of lost in his own thoughts.  Douglas Archer saw him and said "Eric, you look very wise.  Say something wise."  Eric looked at him and after a long pause said" I think we should bang bricks together".  We all got a laugh out of this and pretty soon we were coming up with all sorts of jokes involving bricks.  My former lady (Helyn Brownberry) was Seneschal of Southern Shores then, and bricks managed to infiltrate officers' meetings. A miracle!  We were tossing about for ideas for things to do at an event, and someone came up with the idea of searching for the True Brick.  So a Southern Shores tradition was born.  I think the event was the first Newcomers Tourney at Grant Ranch Park.

I was variously Warlord, Province Constable, and Arts Minister, during the period from 1981 - 1985. Later, I was Deputy Kingdom Science Minister, and Kingdom Minister of Information, now know as Lochac Liaison, through my activities were more far reaching than Lochac. I am now living in Southron Gaard, Caid, MKA New Zealand.  I would appreciate any mail from Southern Shores as I have many fond remembrances of the Ancient and Mighty Province of Southern Shores.

I remain, as ever, In Service to the Dream

The Honorable Baron Thomas Buttesthorn
